While millions of people watched the news of this horrible genocide, not one country stood up and made an effort to stop it. not the U.S., not France, not Belgium. Peacemakers tried as they might, but nothing and nobody made a difference in this. the most sad was having our own country fail to even classify this as a genocide. Genocide as defined on dictionary.com is: a deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. how could the killing of the Tutsi population not be labeled a genocide? the Hutu's deliberatly planned to target and destroy all of them no matter what. some single individuals tried to make differences and stop this, but it was to no use. the genocide only stopped when the Tutsi rebel group, the RPF and new president Paul Kagame, took control. the U.S. officials didn't even use the word "genocide" during public statements. i feel that we definatly hit a low point when this is brought up.
